Julian Prégardien

BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1984, young tenor Julian Prégardien has already been enjoying success in opera, concert and Lied.  The renowned Aix-en-Provence Festival selected Prégardien as one of the young vocalists to form part of its Académie Européenne de Musique. After finishing his studies in Freiburg, he was immediately engaged as a company member by Frankfurt Opera where, in the course of four seasons (2009-2013), he sang many roles – including Tamino in “The Magic Flute”.  The works of J. S. Bach form the nucleus of Julian Prégardien’s extensive repertoire in the domain of sacred vocal music. In an international production broadcast in 2013 by Bavarian Television, his interpretation of the Evangelist in the St Matthew Passion attracted particular notice.  As a chamber musician, Prégardien not only performs lied recitals but also appears with ensembles on a regular basis, often providing them with his own instrumental arrangements of art song piano accompaniments. His Cologne Philharmonie recital début in 2011 reaped praise from the daily Kölnische Rundschau: “It is certainly phenomenal to hear a vocalist possessing such a degree of culture.”
