08/16/2023
Deutsche Grammophon is set to assume responsibility for the digital music distribution of myrios classics recordings as of today. Founded by producer and sound engineer Stephan Cahen, the critically acclaimed label will work side by side with DG to ensure that its releases achieve high visibility on all major streaming platforms. Given its close relationships with its digital business partners at the streaming services, Deutsche Grammophon will manage B2B interactions within the new partnership with myrios, thereby boosting the boutique label’s digital development and freeing it to focus on project origination and A&R development.
“We’re delighted about this new distribution partnership with myrios classics,” comments Dr Clemens Trautmann, President Deutsche Grammophon. “Our labels are driven by a similar ethos that combines equally high levels of artistic quality and production standards. Stephan Cahen’s outstanding curatorial and technological signature is always evident in his label’s recordings, and we’re excited by the prospect of collaborating with him.”
Stephan Cahen welcomes the new partnership and the opportunities it brings to expand the global profile and reach of myrios classics recordings. “myrios remains committed to its two main missions: empowering today’s leading musicians to capture their interpretations with exceptional audio quality and sharing the artistic results with a diverse audience. As a boutique label, we understand the importance of expanding our distribution network to provide our artists and unique projects with the visibility they deserve in the ever-changing digital music landscape. We are grateful to have found an outstanding partner in Deutsche Grammophon, a universally acknowledged industry leader. The trust and support shown by Clemens Trautmann and the DG Premium Label Services team, led by Anja Rittmöller, Johannes Gleim, and Markus Kettner, truly honour our label.”
Since its creation in 2009, myrios classics has forged close ties with world-class artists such as Kirill Gerstein, Tabea Zimmermann, Jörg Widmann, the Hagen Quartet and François-Xavier Roth. The Cologne-based label’s carefully curated releases have received widespread critical praise and multiple awards, including the ECHO and OPUS KLASSIK, ICMA, and Diapason d’Or de l’année, and are regularly selected as Editor’s Choice by Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine.
The myrios classics catalogue embraces the richness of repertoire from Baroque concertos and sonatas to music by Adès, Widmann and Knussen. Recent releases include Tabea Zimmermann’s SOLO II, an anthology of works by J.S. Bach and György Kurtág and a coupling of clarinet quintets by Mozart and Jörg Widmann, performed by Widmann and the Hagen Quartet. myrios enjoys a particularly close collaboration with François-Xavier Roth and the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. Since completing the Schumann symphonies cycle, the team has been engaged in recording the complete Bruckner symphonies for the composer’s 200th birthday. Other highlights include Thomas Adès’s In Seven Days, and the world premiere recordings of his Berceuse and the concert paraphrase on Powder Her Face for two pianos, performed by the composer and Kirill Gerstein; and Richard Strauss’s melodrama Enoch Arden, narrated by Bruno Ganz (Wings of Desire, Downfall) in what proved to be his final recording.
